Oran Province, Administrative province in northwestern Algeria
Oran Province is an administrative region in northwestern Algeria that extends along the Mediterranean coast and inland areas. Its nine administrative districts are subdivided into 26 municipalities with varying landscapes and settlement patterns.
The territory was originally organized as a French department before becoming an Algerian province in 1968 following independence. Administrative boundary changes occurred in 1974 that shaped its current structure.
The coastal region shows a blend of local traditions and influences from Mediterranean trade and movement. In markets and neighborhoods, visitors can see this diversity reflected in how people live, build, and gather together.
The capital city Oran has an international airport and seaport that serve as entry points and regional hubs. An extensive road network connects all districts, making it straightforward to explore the region's varied areas.
The province contains large industrial zones in Arzew and Bethioua where petrochemical production and manufacturing are concentrated. These facilities create a striking contrast with agricultural areas elsewhere and shape the regional economy.
