Zewail City of Science, Technology and Innovation, academic organization in Cairo, Egypt
Zewail City is a university and research institution in Cairo with seven institutes dedicated to science, technology and innovation. The campus features modern buildings with laboratories, classrooms and research centers where students and scientists conduct experiments and work on projects.
The institution was founded in 2011 and named after Dr. Ahmed Zewail, an Egyptian Nobel Prize winner. The groundbreaking took place in 2000, but the project was renewed after delays and officially declared a national priority for scientific development in 2011.
The campus is open to visitors interested in science or attending special events and exhibitions. It is advisable to check ahead since some areas have restricted access and guided tours may vary depending on ongoing activities and research schedules.
The facility sits on spacious grounds with plans for a new expanded campus nearby that will eventually double its capacity. When completed, this new site will add significantly more buildings for teaching and research, further establishing the institution as a major scientific hub.
