Yamabe Castle

Yamabe Castle is a mountain fortress ruin located in the hills near Matsumoto, featuring remnants of stone walls scattered across the site. The structure occupies a valley position that once served as a key defensive point within a network of regional fortifications.

The Yamabe clan built this fortress in the early 1300s as a defensive stronghold in the local mountain region. Control shifted to the Ogasawara clan in 1505, who maintained it as part of their territorial authority over the area.

The castle ruins demonstrate the architectural methods and defensive strategies used by Japanese feudal lords during the regional conflicts of medieval times.

Visiting the ruins requires hiking along mountain trails through hilly terrain with uneven ground and natural obstacles. Sturdy footwear and good preparation are essential for navigating the landscape safely.
