Động Tam Cốc

The Tam Coc cave complex consists of three natural caves carved by the Ngo Dong River through limestone mountains, creating water passages beneath rock formations.

The caves served as strategic shelters during conflicts and are located near Hoa Lu, which functioned as Vietnam's capital during the 10th and 11th centuries.

Local rice farmers maintain traditional agricultural methods in the surrounding fields, cultivating crops between the towering limestone formations throughout the seasons.

Visitors can access the caves through guided boat tours departing from Van Lam village, with journeys lasting approximately two hours through all three cave sections.

The cave system forms part of the Trang An Complex where boats navigate through natural tunnels while rice paddies extend directly to the water's edge.
