Sommet du Santin - Serre Orel, Mountain summit in Villar-d'Arêne, France.
Sommet du Santin - Serre Orel is a mountain summit rising to 2137 meters in the Ecrins Alps. The terrain is steep with open alpine meadows, and the peak provides wide-ranging views across multiple valleys.
The mountain paths around this peak developed as part of traditional alpine routes linking the Romanche Valley to neighboring areas. These routes served shepherds and traders for many centuries.
Shepherds in this region have long used these slopes for seasonal grazing and pastoral practices. The open alpine meadows visible across the mountain reflect this long-standing relationship between people and the landscape.
The main trailhead starts at Col du Lautaret parking area at approximately 2050 meters elevation. The hiking route covers roughly 6 kilometers with clear red markings and additional interpretation signage along the way.
From the summit you can see both the Romanche Valley and the Guisane Valley at the same time, offering a rare perspective across two major valleys in a single view. An orientation table at the peak helps identify the surrounding mountains.
