Superman statue, Bronze statue in Metropolis, United States
The Superman statue stands 15 feet tall, weighs 4,000 pounds, and features the superhero in his classic blue and red costume with flowing cape.
The current Superman statue, unveiled in 1993, replaced a smaller fiberglass version from 1986 that suffered damage and disappeared due to vandalism.
The statue represents Metropolis as the official hometown of Superman, recognized by both DC Comics and the Illinois House of Representatives.
Visitors can find the statue in Superman Square, in front of the Massac County Courthouse on Market Street, south of West 6th Street.
The statue includes a special unpainted area on the left boot where people touch the surface for good fortune.
