Eunpyeong Hanok Village, Traditional residential district in Jingwan-dong, Korea.
Eunpyeong Hanok Village is a traditional Korean residential area with 158 hanok houses in northwest Seoul at the base of Bukhansan Mountain. The houses display typical Korean construction with tile roofs, wooden beams, and inner courtyards that together form a cohesive historic landscape.
The neighborhood was established in 2014 as a municipal project to preserve traditional Korean architecture within modern living spaces. The initiative emerged from a desire to protect historical building techniques while creating a livable contemporary community area.
The village demonstrates how traditional Korean domestic life continues in modern times, with homes featuring curved roofs and courtyards that serve as everyday living spaces. Visitors experience not just preserved architecture, but see how craftsmanship and local shops animate the area.
The village is most easily reached by taking buses 7723 or 7211 from Exit 4 of Gupabal Station on Seoul Metro Line 3. The paved paths inside are built for walkers, but note that the area is hilly with stairs leading to different sections.
The site features eight designated viewpoints that were intentionally positioned to showcase views of temples, mountains, and architectural details across different seasons. This deliberate approach to framing sightlines sets it apart from many other preservation areas that focus mainly on the buildings themselves.
