Seri Kenangan Beach, Sandy beach in Tutong, Brunei
Seri Kenangan Beach is a sandy shore in Tutong stretching between the South China Sea and the Tutong River on a narrow strip of land. The waterfront is lined with casuarina trees for shade and includes parking areas, food stalls, a children's playground, and simple beach huts for visitors.
Development of this beach as a recreation area started in 1965 when district officer Pengiran Dato Paduka Othman led community-driven improvements to the site. The Istana Pantai, a structure built in the early 1950s, sits on the beach as a former royal resting place.
The name Seri Kenangan means 'Unforgettable Beach' and reflects how locals use this place for celebrations and gatherings throughout the year. Families and community groups come here regularly to spend time together and mark special occasions.
The beach sits about 2 kilometers west of Tutong town with ample parking for cars and buses, making it easy to reach by vehicle. Food vendors are scattered along the shore and simple shelters provide rest spots during your visit.
Though now known as a family destination, the Istana Pantai standing on this site is one of the lesser-studied structures of Brunei's royal history. Few visitors realize they are walking past a building that once served as a private royal retreat.
