Santa Monica Boulevard, Major thoroughfare in Los Angeles County, US.

Santa Monica Boulevard is a major road in Los Angeles County running from Ocean Avenue to Sunset Boulevard and connecting several neighborhoods. It passes through areas including Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, passing by numerous commercial and residential districts.

The road was part of the legendary Route 66, where Pacific Electric Red Car trains ran until 1953. This railway served as a major transportation link for people traveling in the region for many decades.

The western section features bronze plaques set into the sidewalk that commemorate people lost to HIV/AIDS. These memorial markers shape how people experience the street and connect visitors to local stories.

The boulevard is served by multiple public transportation options including Metro Local line 4, Santa Monica Transit line 1, and West Hollywood PickUp service. These options make it easy to reach and explore different sections of the street.

In Beverly Hills, the boulevard splits into two separate roadways where the south side functions as a city street while the north side operates as a California state highway. This unusual arrangement is the result of a local agreement between the city and state.
