The road was part of the legendary Route 66, where Pacific Electric Red Car trains ran until 1953. This railway served as a major transportation link for people traveling in the region for many decades.

The western section features bronze plaques set into the sidewalk that commemorate people lost to HIV/AIDS. These memorial markers shape how people experience the street and connect visitors to local stories.

In Beverly Hills, the boulevard splits into two separate roadways where the south side functions as a city street while the north side operates as a California state highway. This unusual arrangement is the result of a local agreement between the city and state.
