Exchange Peak

Exchange Peak is a mountain summit in the Santa Monica Mountains that rises to 899 meters (2950 feet). From this elevation, the views extend across the California coastal landscape and out toward the Pacific Ocean.

The mountain area served as a territorial landmark and boundary marker for indigenous communities who traveled across these lands before European settlement arrived in California. This ancient connection to the landscape continues to define the region.

The summit connects a network of peaks that link several protected natural areas, including Point Mugu State Park. From this vantage point, visitors can sense how these spaces form a larger system of conservation across the region.

Several marked trails reach the summit from different trailheads, with the main route crossing demanding terrain. Visitors should prepare for steep climbs and changing ground conditions along the way.

The summit ranks as the second highest point in Boney Mountain State Wilderness, with a prominence that makes it stand out distinctly in the landscape. This geological feature gives it unusual significance when exploring the surrounding terrain.
