Tri Peaks, Mountain summit in Ventura County, US
Tri Peaks is a mountain summit in the Santa Monica Mountains with an elevation of 917 meters, recognizable by three large boulders at its top. The location offers views toward the Channel Islands and draws both hikers and climbers to the area.
The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area was established in 1978, protecting Tri Peaks and surrounding lands as a natural preserve. This designation opened the area to public access for outdoor recreation and hiking.
Rock climbers gather regularly at the boulders to practice different techniques on the porous stone surfaces, forming an active community of outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Access to Tri Peaks is through the Mishe Mokwa Trail, which connects to the Backbone Trail for a round trip of about 12 kilometers from the starting point. Sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water are recommended, as the route is long and offers little shade along the way.
Natural caves and passages form between the three boulders, inviting visitors to explore the unusual rock formations at the summit. These geological features make the peak interesting for those seeking more than a standard hiking experience.
