Floraville Historic District, historic district in Ohio, United States
Floraville Historic District is a neighborhood in Lebanon with buildings that mainly come from the 1800s and show different styles of that time. Most homes are made of brick, sit close together, and have traditional designs with porches and simple details.
The area was settled by early settlers in the late 1790s, about four years before Lebanon was officially founded. Throughout the 1800s, homes grew rapidly, especially after wealthy families built large houses with gardens on the hills, which gave the area its name.
The name Floraville comes from the many gardens and plants that wealthy residents planted in the 1800s. You can still see small gardens and green spaces today that give the neighborhood its character and show how early residents shaped their surroundings.
The neighborhood has wide streets that are easy to walk and many homes have plaques with historical information. Since it is an active residential area, it is best to visit early in the morning or late afternoon when street traffic is quieter.
Several well-known figures lived here, including a Civil War general and a future Ohio lieutenant governor. The area was also briefly an independent town before it was reunited with Lebanon in 1862.
