Avatar Flight of Passage

Avatar Flight of Passage is a simulator ride in Disney's Animal Kingdom, Florida, that combines 3D imagery with motion to recreate a flight through the mountain world of Pandora on a banshee. Guests sit on vehicles resembling motorcycles while large screens display an animated landscape.

The ride opened on May 27, 2017, as part of a larger area dedicated to the Avatar film. Walt Disney Imagineering worked with production company Lightstorm Entertainment and studio Weta Digital to create the visuals.

The name refers to the film planet Pandora and its winged creatures called banshees. Visitors today see plants and rock formations that echo the jungle from James Cameron's film and recreate an alien landscape.

Visitors must be at least 44 inches (112 cm) tall to ride, and wait times often exceed two hours during busy periods. It helps to arrive early in the morning or late in the evening when lines tend to be shorter.

The screens use 10K resolution and display content at 60 frames per second in a stereoscopic format. This technology produces an unusually sharp rendering of the animated environment throughout the ride.
