Dinosaur, Enhanced motion vehicle ride in DinoLand U.S.A., Florida
Dinosaur is an enhanced motion vehicle ride in DinoLand U.S.A., Florida, where vehicles move through a prehistoric environment. The vehicles tilt, climb, and turn along a computer-controlled track while passengers travel through darkened rooms with illuminated scenes.
The attraction opened on April 22, 1998, under the name Countdown to Extinction and linked to a theatrical film of the same era. In 2000, it was renamed Dinosaur to maintain the connection to the movie but with a shorter and simpler title.
The experience follows a research mission storyline in which visitors travel back in time to witness creatures from a vanished world. Guests become part of a scientific expedition, encountering dinosaurs as they might have appeared millions of years ago.
Each vehicle holds twelve passengers in three rows of four seats, and children must be at least 40 inches (102 cm) tall. The experience moves through darkened rooms with sudden movements and loud sounds, so it may not be suitable for very young children.
The hydraulic system within each vehicle operates across six axes of movement and creates sensations of acceleration, climbing, and rapid evasive maneuvers. This technology allows passengers to feel motion that goes beyond a simple track ride.
