Kali River Rapids, River rafting ride in Asia, Disney's Animal Kingdom, United States
Kali River Rapids is a river rafting ride with circular boats that hold 12 passengers and travel through man-made rapids, waterfalls, and spray jets. The boats move through a landscape designed to look like dense tropical forest with multiple water effects happening throughout the journey.
The ride was designed and built by Intamin in 1999 and grew from an original concept called Tiger Rapids Run. That earlier plan included live tigers along the course, but the concept evolved into the attraction visitors see today.
The queue displays thousands of Southeast Asian artifacts and objects that represent everyday life in the fictional village of Anandapur. Visitors encounter traditional crafts and household items that give a sense of how people lived in this imagined place.
Visitors must be at least 38 inches (97 centimeters) tall to ride, and free storage lockers near the entrance hold personal items during the experience. The lockers stay available for several hours, which gives you time for the queue and the ride itself.
The ride incorporates environmental messages through scenes showing burning forests and chainsaw sounds that tell a story about deforestation. This message runs through the narrative in a way that sets it apart from typical theme park attractions.
