Paitava is a Buddhist monastery complex located in Parwan, about 40 kilometers north of Kabul. The site contains multiple building remains and displays Buddhist sculptures and artworks from the Kushan period.
The monastery flourished during the Kushan Empire and served as a destination for travelers from afar. The Chinese pilgrim Xuan Zang visited this location in the 7th century and recorded its importance.
The site displays Buddhist artwork featuring figures dressed in Kushan-style clothing that reflect the cultural world of that era. The carvings show both religious scenes and glimpses of daily life that were meaningful to people who came here.
