Meydan Racecourse, racecourse in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Meydan Racecourse is a horse racing venue in Dubai built along a long straight track with both turf and dirt surfaces available for different race formats. The main building runs the length of the home straight and houses restaurants, viewing terraces, and a large grandstand topped by a curved tower.
The racecourse opened in 2010 on land near the older Nad Al Sheba track, which had hosted racing in Dubai since the late 1980s. The new facility was built to take over major events from that earlier venue and to serve as a permanent home for the Dubai World Cup.
The Dubai World Cup, held here each spring, draws visitors from around the world who dress up and gather in the stands as much for the social occasion as for the racing itself. The event reflects how horse racing in Dubai sits at the center of a broader tradition of spectacle and hospitality.
The site covers a large area, so comfortable footwear is a good idea, and arriving early on race days helps avoid congestion at the entrances. Public transport connects directly to the venue, which is a practical option when parking becomes difficult during major events.
The grandstand at Meydan is said to be the longest horse racing grandstand in the world, running for nearly 0.6 miles (1 km) along the home straight. Visiting outside the racing season gives a very different experience, when the building feels almost empty and its full scale becomes easier to take in.
