Al Safa, Metro station on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Al Safa is an elevated metro station on Dubai's Red Line, located in the western part of the city between the Noor Bank and Business Bay stations. The platform sits above street level and gives passengers a view over the surrounding roads and low-rise buildings as trains pass through.
Al Safa opened in 2009 as part of the Red Line's first phase, which made Dubai the first city in the Gulf region to have an automated metro network. The line was built to ease the growing traffic pressure that came with the city's rapid expansion in the 2000s.
Al Safa sits in a residential area where families and daily commuters mix naturally. Stepping out of the station, visitors find themselves in a neighborhood with cafés, small shops, and the kind of streets that belong to everyday city life rather than to tourism.
The station is air-conditioned and equipped with elevators, making it easy to reach the platform regardless of mobility. A Nol card is needed to travel on the metro and can be bought or topped up at machines inside the station.
The trains on the Red Line run without a driver and are fully automated, which is still rare for metro systems in the region. Passengers sitting at the very front of the train get an unobstructed view of the tracks ahead, something that feels different from most metro rides.
