Band-e Amir National Park

Band-e Amir National Park contains six lakes with deep blue water separated by natural travertine walls in the Hindu Kush mountains at 2909 meters elevation.

The area functioned as a significant trading route through Central Asia before its designation as Afghanistan's first national park in 2009.

The park's name translates to 'the Ruler's Dam' in Dari, serving the local Hazara community who maintain traditional practices in the surrounding region.

Visitors can access the park throughout the year, although winter brings substantial snowfall and frozen lakes at this high-altitude location.

The water seeping through rock faults deposits minerals that form natural dams, creating one of the few travertine lake systems on Earth.
