Gardens of Babur

The Gardens of Babur extend across 11 hectares with 16 terraces at 1816 meters elevation, featuring water channels, fruit trees, and walking paths through Persian garden designs.

Emperor Babur established these gardens in 1504 and chose this location for his final resting place, leading subsequent Mughal rulers to enhance the site with additions.

The gardens represent Persian and Mughal landscaping traditions with symmetrical layouts, water features, and terraced structures that influenced garden design across South Asia.

The gardens include multiple entrances, rest areas, a marble mosque, and maintained pathways that allow visitors to explore different levels of the terraced landscape.

Archaeological findings at the gardens date to the 3rd century BC, making this site one of the oldest continuously maintained garden spaces in Afghanistan.
