Forward Operating Base Budwan, Military base in Nahri Saraj District, Afghanistan
Forward Operating Base Budwan was a military facility in Nahri Saraj District with a concrete helipad situated at about 869 meters (2,850 feet) of elevation near the town of Gereshk in Helmand Province. The installation served as one of several operation bases supporting military campaigns in the region.
The facility was established in 2008 and operated under British and Danish forces as part of Task Force Helmand during Operation Herrick in southern Afghanistan. It was closed in 2011 as the military situation in the area evolved.
The base carried the name FOB Armadillo, derived from a Danish major's mascot, before being renamed to Budwan in 2010. This name change marked a shift in the command and operational focus of the facility.
The site was located in a remote area with limited infrastructure and accessibility in the surrounding region. Those interested in learning about it should know that the facility no longer operates and remains in a difficult-to-reach location today.
A documentary film called Armadillo recorded the experiences of Danish soldiers stationed at this base during their deployment in Afghanistan. The film provided rare insights into the everyday life and challenges faced by international troops at the location.
