Main Operating Base Lashkar Gah, Military base in Lashkargah District, Afghanistan
Main Operating Base Lashkar Gah was a military installation in Helmand Province featuring two concrete helipads and operational facilities located at 787 meters above sea level. The site was equipped with various infrastructure to sustain military operations across the region over many years.
The base was established in 2006 and served as headquarters for military operations in southern Afghanistan. In 2014, Afghan security forces assumed full control, marking the end of international military presence at this location.
Multiple military units, including the 16 Air Assault Brigade, 3 Commando Brigade, and 12th Mechanized Brigade, coordinated activities at this installation.
The installation sits on elevated terrain in a hilly region and is not accessible to the public, remaining under military control. Visitors should note that the area faces ongoing security challenges and is not recommended for regular tourism.
The installation managed extensive military operations while maintaining connections with the Lashkar Gah Provincial Reconstruction Team throughout its active period.
