Tajik–Afghan bridge at Tem-Demogan, International suspension bridge in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province, Afghanistan.
The Tajik-Afghan bridge at Tem-Demogan is a suspension bridge that crosses the Panj River, linking two remote mountain communities on opposite sides of the border. It spans approximately 135 meters and measures about 3.5 meters wide, constructed with steel cables and wooden planks.
The bridge was completed in November 2002 through international collaboration and funding from multiple partners working to improve border connectivity. It emerged as part of a broader initiative to establish multiple crossings along the Panj River frontier region.
The bridge stands near communities of Ismaili Muslims, linking populations who follow the guidance of the Aga Khan Foundation that funded the project.
The bridge serves both pedestrians and vehicles as a functioning border crossing in this remote mountain region. It is wise to check local conditions before crossing, as weather can be severe and access may be affected by seasonal changes or regional circumstances.
This bridge represents the first of four crossings planned by the Aga Khan Foundation to connect communities along the Panj River border region.
