Lago Rosselot National Reserve, Nature reserve in Aysén Province, Chile
Lago Rosselot National Reserve is a protected area in Aysén Province, southern Chile, covering dense forests, mountain terrain, and a glacier-formed lake at its center. It sits along the Carretera Austral and borders Queulat National Park to the south.
The area was first set aside as a national park in 1968 to protect its native plants and animals. In 1983 its status changed to a national reserve, shifting the focus toward active management of natural resources.
The reserve is reached via the Carretera Austral, near the small town of La Junta. Roads in the area are mostly gravel and rough, so a high-clearance vehicle is a practical choice.
A trail of about 3 miles (5 km) inside the reserve leads to two viewpoints overlooking the point where the Palena and Rosselot rivers meet. There are no visitor centers or facilities inside the protected area, so everything must be brought in by the visitor.
