Biobío Region, Administrative region in central Chile
The Biobío Region stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Andes Mountains, incorporating coastal ranges, fertile valleys, and dense forests across 23,890 square kilometers.
The territory remained under Araucanian Indian control until the 1860s, when the Chilean army established control following fifty years of Chilean independence from Spain.
The Cathedral of Concepción, constructed between 1940 and 1950, stands at Plaza de la Independencia as a central religious monument of the region.

The Ironclad Huascar, a nineteenth-century battleship turned floating museum in Talcahuano port, preserves maritime heritage from the War of the Pacific.
