Parc provincial Copahue

The provincial park spans 28,300 hectares across Neuquén province, featuring volcanic landscapes, thermal springs, waterfalls, and dense Araucaria forests at elevations from 1,400 to 2,935 meters.

Established in 1937 as Los Copahues National Reserve, the area transferred to provincial jurisdiction in 1963 through Decree Provincial Law 387/63 to protect local ecosystems.

The name Copahue derives from Mapudungun language meaning sulfurous waters, reflecting the thermal features that Pehuenche people utilized in this territory.

Access to the park is available through Provincial Route 26 from Loncopué covering 52 kilometers, or via Routes 21 and 27 from El Huecú spanning 67 kilometers.

The park contains the northernmost Araucaria forests in Argentina and encompasses an active volcano producing thermal waters recognized by the World Health Organization.
