Holy Cross Church, Hanga Roa

Holy Cross Church stands on Te Pito Te Henua Street, featuring a white exterior with volcanic stone accents and wooden carvings throughout its structure.

The church, established in December 1937 by missionary Father Sebastian Englert, represents the first permanent Catholic institution on Easter Island.

The interior displays a fusion of Catholic and Rapa Nui art, including sculptures of saints and traditional symbols carved into wooden surfaces.

Services at Holy Cross Church take place regularly in Spanish, while traditional hymns are sung in the Rapa Nui language.

The church houses a distinctive baptismal font decorated with rongorongo symbols and a Christ figure wearing a headdress of shells and bones.
