Museo Violeta Parra, Cultural museum in Santiago, Chile

The Museo Violeta Parra is a modern building with a distinctive woven wicker facade crafted by local artisans. Inside, various works spanning painting, sculpture, and textiles are displayed across the exhibition spaces.

Inaugurated on 4 October 2015 by President Michelle Bachelet, the museum opened several years later than the 2011 target. The site had been occupied for 19 years by Andrés Pérez's Gran Circo Teatro, where La Negra Ester was staged. In February 2020 a fire damaged the auditorium; the works had been evacuated weeks earlier.

The museum's two permanent rooms are named after Parra's own categories: Sala Humana, on the upper floor reached by a ramp, covers popular traditions, the cueca, the circus and her friendships; Sala Divina, on the ground floor, covers religiosity and the spiritual world. The ramp's right-hand beams carry Nicanor Parra's poem "Defensa de Violeta".

The museum occupies 1330 m² at Vicuña Mackenna 37, with a second entrance on Ramón Corvalán 38. The visit starts on a ramp up to the second floor, where the Sala Humana, the audiovisual room and the educational room are located; the Sala Divina is on the ground floor. The auditorium Antar seats 100 people.

The building showcases a rare combination of contemporary architecture and traditional craftsmanship executed by local specialists. This blend mirrors what the museum itself is about: the connection between modern thinking and traditional roots.
