Chilean Writers' Society, Cultural institution and Historical Monument in Providencia, Chile.

The Chilean Writers' Society (SECH) has its headquarters in the Casa del Escritor, a mansion at Almirante Simpson 7 built in 1927 by architect Julio Machicao Fuentes for the family of Austrian businessman Enrique Schiffrin. It is an example of the nationalist architecture of the 1920s, with large interior spaces, profuse decoration and salons intended for the arts. The house was declared a Historical Monument in October 2009.

Founded on 6 November 1931 by 42 writers, the Society elected its first provisional board on 28 January 1932 and a definitive one on 14 April under Domingo Melfi. Its legal personality came with decree 1904 of 9 August 1933. It has been led by Pablo Neruda, Marta Brunet, Manuel Rojas and Pedro Prado, and in 1969 organised the First Latin American Writers' Meeting.
