Teatro Universidad de Chile, Theatre at Providencia 43, Santiago, Chile

The Teatro Universidad de Chile occupies the ground floor of one of the Turri towers, on the south side of Plaza Baquedano. Its hall covers 1,700 square metres and holds a thousand seats divided into four sectors. It is also known as Teatro Ceac, after the university's Centro de Extensión Artística y Cultural.

The hall opened in 1931 as the Baquedano cinema, on the first floor of the central Turri tower, whose construction began in 1929 under architect Guillermo Scheider for businessman Enrique Turri. As a 2,300-seat movie palace it screened films all day, with matinees for children, family films at six and adult films at nine. In 1987 the Universidad de Chile created its Ceac extension centre and two years later signed a twenty-year exclusive lease; the refurbished hall became the Teatro Universidad de Chile. In November 2017 the university bought the 1,700-square-metre, 1,000-seat venue for 115,000 UF.

The theatre is the home stage of the university's artistic companies: the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, the Ballet Nacional (Banch), the Camerata Vocal and the Coro Sinfónico. Its name comes from the Centro de Extensión Artística y Cultural (Ceac), which has run the hall since 1987. From 2025 the companies also use the new VM20 cultural centre on Vicuña Mackenna 20.

The theatre occupies the ground floor of one of the Turri towers on the south side of Plaza Baquedano, in the Santiago Centro area bordering Providencia. The hall seats a thousand people in four sectors, so sightlines vary by sector. The Universidad de Chile bought the 1,700-square-metre space in November 2017 and planned a full remodelling and a rear extension toward Vicuña Mackenna 20.

The theatre opened in 1931 as the Cine Baquedano, a 2,300-seat cinema palace in the Turri towers, with matinees for children, 6 pm family films and 9 pm screenings for adults. The Universidad de Chile only bought the 1,700 m², 1,000-seat hall in November 2017 for 115,000 UF, announced by rector Ennio Vivaldi during the university's 175th anniversary.
