Casa Schneider Hernández, Residential palace in Providencia, Chile
Casa Schneider Hernández was a three-story residential building in Providencia featuring a prominent tower with a spire, terraces, and columned porticos along its main facade on Vicuña Mackenna Avenue. The structure combined impressive architectural elements with comfortable living spaces for a wealthy family.
The mansion was built in 1914 for María Hernández Súanes de Schneider on land that was formerly agricultural but became part of Santiago's urban expansion. Its construction reflected the era when the neighborhood began transforming from rural areas into a modern residential zone.
The interior rooms displayed fine moldings, stained glass windows, and mirrors that reflected the refined tastes of Santiago's wealthy families during the early 1900s.
The building site is no longer accessible to visitors as the structure was destroyed. The location still marks an important moment in the neighborhood's architectural history and can be visited as a historical reference point.
The building was completely destroyed by fire on November 8, 2019 during social protests, marking the end of this architectural landmark. This event captured a turning point in Santiago's recent history and the pressures that shaped the city's transformation.
