Movistar Arena, Indoor sports arena in Santiago, Chile
Movistar Arena is a modern indoor sports facility in Santiago located within O'Higgins Park, designed to host diverse events. The building features advanced sound and lighting systems suitable for concerts, sporting competitions, and other large-scale gatherings.
The main structure of the arena dates to 1956 but remained incomplete for decades. The roof was finally added in 2000, allowing the facility to become fully operational.
At the entrance, the Paseo de las Estrellas is an 80 m² mosaic wall, 35 m long and up to 4.5 m high, where visiting artists leave handprints, names and signatures. It was inaugurated on 7 November 2012 with the Chilean group Los Jaivas, whose members Juanita Parra, Claudio Parra, Mario Mutis, Carlos Cabezas, Francisco Bosco and Ankatu Alquinta pressed their hands into the plaques.
Capacity ranges from 12,000 seated to 15,500 standing. The arena has 1,500 parking spaces, air conditioning, food and drink outlets, lifts and accessible toilets and entrances. Public access is through O'Higgins Park via Viel and Tupper streets; Parque O'Higgins metro station and Fantasilandia are nearby.
A controversial Davis Cup match between Chile and Argentina took place here in 2000, resulting in penalties for the Chilean Tennis Federation. The incident stemmed from crowd disruptions during the match.
