Costanera Center, Commercial complex in Providencia, Chile
Costanera Center is a complex of four skyscrapers in the Providencia business district, with the Gran Torre Santiago standing at 62 floors and 300 meters as the second tallest building in Latin America. The shopping center at the base of the towers spreads across six levels with stores, restaurants, and a hypermarket, plus direct access to Tobalaba metro station.
Construction started in 2006 but stopped in 2009 due to the global financial crisis and resumed in late 2010. The Gran Torre Santiago reached its full height in February 2012, and the entire complex opened in 2013.
The name comes from the Spanish word for waterfront avenue, referring to nearby Avenida Costanera Andrés Bello, which runs along a former riverbed. People from Santiago gather here to shop and eat, making the complex one of the most visited spots in the capital.
The complex is open daily and sits centrally in a well-connected part of Santiago, making it easy to reach by metro or bus. The shopping center typically keeps longer hours than individual stores, offering more flexibility for visiting.
The Sky Costanera observation deck at 300 meters offers a full circle view of Santiago with the Andes rising behind, especially visible on clear days. The deck is the highest observation platform in South America and provides a sweeping look at the entire stretch of the Chilean capital.
