Huamanchoque, Mountain summit in Sacred Valley, Peru
Huamanchoque is a mountain summit in the Urubamba range of the Andes, rising to 5,156 meters and located north of the Vilcanota River in Cusco Region. The peak sits within the Lares trek area and marks a significant point in the mountainous landscape of the Sacred Valley.
The mountain served as a geographical marker within ancient Inca territory and formed a natural boundary in Calca Province since pre-Columbian times. This position made it an important landmark in the Andean landscape of the region.
The name comes from Quechua words for a falcon and precious metal, showing how indigenous peoples named the peaks in these mountains.
The summit is best reached via the Lares trek route through Cancha Cancha valley, with the town of Huayllabamba serving as a good starting point. The path is easiest to walk during the drier months.
The summit forms part of a distinct grouping with neighboring peaks Sahuasiray and Condorhuachana, creating a recognizable mountain formation. This arrangement creates different visual profiles depending on where you stand in the valley below.
