Parque y reserva natural Chancaní, Nature reserve in Córdoba Province, Argentina
Parque y reserva natural Chancaní is a protected area in Córdoba Province that safeguards dry woodlands and thornbush ecosystems of the Chaco Árido region. The land contains open grasslands, wooded patches, and water sources that support many plants and animals adapted to dry conditions.
The area was originally planned for commercial development but was converted into a protected space instead. It became the first reserve in Córdoba to officially represent and preserve the Chaco Árido ecosystem.
The reserve is where visitors can watch animals like armadillos, deer, and various birds in their natural habitat. The paths move through landscapes that local residents have used and valued for generations.
The entrance closes during early afternoon and after 6 PM, so plan to arrive in the morning or late afternoon. Basic facilities like restrooms, wood-heated showers, and cooking areas are available on site, and camping is free.
At night the reserve can become completely dark since entrances remain closed after sunset and artificial lights are minimal. This makes it an unexpected place to watch stars and experience nocturnal wildlife in its most natural form.
