Anfiteatro Municipal Humberto de Nito, Open-air theater in Parque Urquiza, Rosario, Argentina
The Anfiteatro Municipal Humberto de Nito is an open-air theater in Parque Urquiza built according to Greek architectural principles with stone seating arranged in a semicircle. The structure accommodates around 3000 spectators and provides good sight lines and acoustic projection.
Construction started in 1951 under the administration of Dr. José Lo Valvo and was completed in 1971 under the leadership of Pablo Benetti Aprosio. The project arose from the desire to create a public venue for the city's cultural needs.
The venue carries the name of composer Humberto de Nito and functions as a gathering place for concerts, theatrical shows, and community events that shape local life. Audiences come together here to watch performances and experience art in an open setting.
The amphitheater sits within Parque Urquiza and is relatively easy to navigate; visitors can orient themselves near the main entrance. There are seating areas suited to different needs, and on performance days the site is well signposted.
Architects Giménez Rafuls and Solari Viglieno carefully analyzed the terrain's features to optimize the natural acoustics of the site. This attention to landscape topology allowed the amphitheater to deliver excellent sound quality without modern amplification systems.
