Formosa Province, Northern province in Argentina
Located between the Bermejo and Pilcomayo Rivers, Formosa Province spans across flat plains with temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius during summer months.
The territory remained contested between Argentina and Paraguay until the War of the Triple Alliance concluded in 1870, leading to its current territorial status.
Indigenous communities and Spanish descendants contribute to regional traditions through yearly festivals, traditional dances, and local handicraft production across the province.
The province maintains connection with other Argentine regions through national highways, providing access to its nine administrative departments and the capital city.
The name derives from the Spanish word 'fermosa', selected by 16th-century sailors observing a particular turn of the Paraguay River near the current capital.
