Parque provincial El Piñalito, Provincial park in San Pedro, Argentina.
Parque provincial El Piñalito is a protected reserve set within mountainous terrain in Misiones province, covering thousands of hectares of Atlantic Forest. The landscape is hilly with many streams and waterfalls scattered throughout, creating natural water features that flow across the terrain.
The area operated as a lumber operation called El Piñalito until 1997, when a conservation foundation took steps to transform it into a protected reserve. This shift moved the land from timber production toward preservation.
The name comes from the old logging facility that once operated here, and today it serves as a refuge where nature is reclaiming the land. Walking through the forest, you notice how wildlife has returned and the woods feel alive again after years of use.
The park sits several kilometers away from the nearest towns and requires planned travel by private transport or organized tour. It is best to check current access conditions before visiting, as regulations can change.
The reserve protects several wild cat species including jaguarundi, ocelot, and puma that are returning to the forests here. These large predators are rarely spotted, but their presence shows the ecosystem is truly recovering.
