Praia de Itaipu, Coastal beach in Niterói, Brazil

Praia de Itaipu is an oceanic beach in the Itaipu neighbourhood of Niterói, about 1,000 metres long. Its cove shape keeps the water calm, unlike the city's other oceanic beaches, and the shore is used by canoes, stand-up paddleboards and small boats that moor there.

Itaipu is home to one of the oldest fishing colonies in Niterói, a community that long predates the beach's current leisure use. The cove's sheltered water made it a natural anchorage, and boats still use the area as a port alongside canoes and stand-up paddleboards.

The beach has parking, restrooms, and seafood restaurants within easy reach along the shore. Come during the cooler months from June to September for the most comfortable conditions and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Itaipu is the only oceanic beach in Niterói whose waters stay calm, sheltered by the cove formed by its shoreline. That shelter is why canoes, stand-up paddleboards and small boats use the bay as a port, while beach tennis is played on the sand.
