Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara

The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara territory extends over 103,000 square kilometers of arid land in the northwestern region of South Australia.

The South Australian Government established the North-West Aboriginal Reserve in 1921, which encompassed most of the current APY territory.

The Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara languages remain the primary means of communication among the indigenous population of the APY lands.

Visitors require permits to enter the APY lands, which can be obtained through official channels to protect cultural sites and local communities.

The APY Art Centre Collective represents over 500 indigenous artists who create and exhibit works through various art centers across the region.
