Mount Andong sits between two villages with four distinct summits covered in pine forest that changes character with elevation. The slopes display different plant communities as you move upward from the base.

The slopes hold traces of plantations established during colonial times, marking an important period of agricultural activity in the region. These former crop fields shaped how the landscape developed over generations.

The Five Mountains Festival is held each year in Mantran village on the mountain's slopes, bringing together arts and culture of the communities around Andong, Menoreh, Merapi, Merbabu and Sumbing. On one peak lies the tomb of Kiai Abdul Faqih, known as Ki Joko Pekik, a figure respected by local people.

Several trailheads provide access to the mountain, though some routes prove easier than others for different fitness levels. Basic facilities like parking are available at the main starting points.

From the summit on clear days, visitors see several other mountains stretching across the horizon in the region. This vantage point reveals how the volcanic peaks form a connected system across Central Java.
