Kapas Biru Waterfall, Waterfall in Pronojiwo, East Java, Indonesia.
Kapas Biru is a waterfall in Pronojiwo, East Java, with a drop of about 100 meters over orange rock walls surrounded by dense vegetation and tall bamboo groves. The water collects at the base in a natural pool suitable for swimming.
The waterfall became known as a tourist destination after 2000, when local residents built hiking trails and bamboo bridges to improve access. This infrastructure transformed a remote location into a popular hiking destination in the region.
The name Kapas Biru comes from Indonesian and means Blue Cotton, referring to the characteristic blue haze that forms around the falls during evening hours. Visitors can best observe this optical effect when visiting at dusk, as the light catches the mist in a special way.
Reaching the waterfall requires a moderate one-hour hike through woods and rice fields with ladder sections and river crossings. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the path can be slippery and exposure to sun and shade varies throughout the walk.
This location forms part of a three-waterfall circuit, with the nearby Coban Sriti waterfall accessible through an additional 20-minute hike past this spot. This allows visitors to experience multiple different falls in a single day.
