Bali–Java Powerline, High voltage transmission infrastructure in Bali Strait, Indonesia.
The Bali-Java Powerline is a high voltage transmission system connecting the electrical networks of Java and Bali across the ocean strait. The infrastructure carries electricity over a distance of about 219 kilometers to supply multiple regions on Bali.
The project started in 2018 with detailed planning for technical requirements and land acquisition on both islands. Building the transmission line was a major infrastructure effort designed to meet growing electricity demand on Bali.
The project linked two island communities through shared infrastructure that reflects their economic partnership. Residents on both islands experience daily the visible presence of this technological connection in their landscape.
The line runs across the sea between Java and Bali and is visible from boats or from both coastlines. The system forms visible infrastructure, so exploring viewpoints of the strait offers a chance to observe the tall towers.
Two massive towers crossing the strait reach heights of 376 meters, making them among the world's tallest electrical pylons. This record height was necessary to allow ships to pass safely underneath the system.
