The Drill Shed at 342 Water Street features a gable-roofed timber structure with a caretaker's cottage and orderly room beside modern high-rises.
Built in 1884 for infantry units of the Queensland Volunteer Force, the building was relocated to its current position in 1925 during military infrastructure changes.
The facility served as a central gathering point for military personnel and their families, hosting training sessions, enlistment activities, and social gatherings.
The heritage-listed complex underwent extensive renovation work, including the installation of 120 support stumps to integrate with surrounding development projects.
The three connected structures form the last remaining pre-Federation military training complex in Brisbane, with the oldest surviving drill shed in Queensland.
