Bowen Park

Bowen Park is a heritage park in Bowen Hills spanning 17,740 square meters with flower beds, mature trees, and ornamental iron arches that line landscaped pathways. The grounds feature several maintained sections accessible from multiple entry points along O'Connell Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road.

The Queensland Acclimatisation Society created this park in 1863 on the site of a former brickfield. It served as an experimental garden to test new plant varieties before wider agricultural adoption.

The 1914 bandstand rotunda served as a gathering place for the Brisbane community to enjoy music and social occasions. You can still see this structure standing in the park today, framed by the surrounding greenery.

The park is easily accessible from several entry points along O'Connell Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road, with well-maintained pathways throughout. You can walk at your own pace through the different sections and explore the grounds comfortably.

This space was used to test tropical crops such as mangoes, ginger, and olives before they were grown commercially across Queensland. The experiments conducted here directly shaped the region's agricultural path.
