Pegunungan Bintang Regency

Pegunungan Bintang extends across 15,683 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, rising to an elevation of 2,576 meters in the eastern part of Papua.

The formation of this administrative region occurred on December 11, 2002, when authorities separated the northeastern districts from Jayawijaya Regency to establish a new territory.

The region encompasses numerous indigenous communities speaking distinct languages including Yetfa, Murkim, Lepki, Kimki, Towei, Emem, and Burumakok across 34 districts.

Transportation within the regency relies primarily on air travel, with a 50-minute flight connecting Sentani Airport in Jayapura to the capital city of Oksibil.

The territory shares an international border with Papua New Guinea while containing multiple swift-flowing rivers that descend from the Maoke Mountains toward the Arafura Sea.
