Hela Province, Administrative province in the highlands region, Papua New Guinea
Hela Province extends across 10,498 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with numerous settlements scattered throughout the regional districts.
The province emerged as an independent administrative region in May 2012 when it separated from the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea.
The Huli population in Hela maintains traditional practices including ceremonial body decorations and performances with panpipes and bamboo instruments.
Visitors reach Hela through daily flights from Port Moresby to Tari airport or via the Highland Highway connecting to Mount Hagen.
The Tagari River flows through the province, providing opportunities for water activities and supporting local agricultural communities.
