Archangel Island

Archangel Island is a nature reserve in the Gulf of California, featuring an extensive mountain chain that runs across much of the landscape. The shoreline consists of steep cliffs that rise sharply from the water.

The island never developed permanent human settlements throughout its history, with only occasional visits from hunting groups. These visits were seasonal and focused on obtaining food and resources.

This place serves as a research site where scientists study the diversity of wildlife and plants, documenting rare species found nowhere else on Earth.

Reaching this place requires a boat trip across a channel that separates it from the mainland. You can find good anchoring spots near the bays on the northern side.

The channel between this place and the mainland serves as a year-round feeding ground for fin whales. Visitors may encounter these large marine mammals in their natural habitat.
