La Roqueta

La Roqueta is a green island near Acapulco with several beaches, coral reefs, and walking trails winding through it. A white lighthouse stands at its peak and can be seen from the water below.

During colonial times, the island served as a defensive position for Spanish ships sailing trade routes. Its location made it important for protecting maritime traffic in the region.

Fishing has always been central to life here, and you can still see traditional fishermen working the waters around the island with their small boats. This daily presence shapes how locals relate to the sea and its resources.

Boats depart regularly from the nearby beach, and the crossing takes only a short time. Morning and early afternoon are the best times to visit when the water is calmer.

Underwater between the island and the beach lies a bronze statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe. This submerged chapel is an unusual religious artwork that divers and snorkelers can discover.
