Comunidad Israelita de El Salvador

The Comunidad Israelita de El Salvador is a Conservative Jewish synagogue and community center in San Benito. The building serves as a place for worship, houses a school called AMOS, and hosts regular gatherings for the local Jewish population.

The congregation was founded in 1949 and initially operated a synagogue in downtown San Salvador. In 1952 it relocated to its current building in San Benito, where it has remained since.

The community practices egalitarian traditions where women participate fully in services and hold active roles in congregational life. Visitors can observe how these inclusive values shape daily gatherings and activities here.

The site is located in a quiet neighborhood and welcomes visitors interested in exploring the grounds. The attached school AMOS offers instruction in Hebrew and Jewish studies for children and young people.

It is the only Conservative Jewish congregation in the country, serving around 50 families in the region. The community has become an important anchor for Jewish tradition in Central America.
